Building with us
everything you need to know before we begin
01
When does building start?
The path to construction looks different for every project - but rest assured, we’ll guide you through it from day one. If you already have full documentation and approvals in place, we can begin pricing immediately - and once contracts are signed, we’re typically on site within 4 to 6 weeks. If you’re starting from scratch, the pre-construction and design phase will vary depending on project scope and which third-party consultants are required - such as arborist reports, site surveys, energy assessments, timber framing design, engineering, and certification. With early builder engagement, we help bring clarity and ensure the process is well coordinated - leading the pre-construction phase so that, when it’s time to build, the transition to site has real momentum and progresses with ease. A thorough pre-construction phase is essential. It’s where we lay the groundwork - technically and financially - for a seamless, well-managed build and a rewarding overall experience.
02
How long is the build?
For architectural homes or renovation projects, the average construction timeframe is 12 to 18 months. This varies depending on complexity, site conditions, and finish levels - but with strong planning in place, we enter site with real momentum. Thanks to our detailed pre-construction process, every decision is mapped, every detail is documented, and your team is aligned. And if something unexpected arises - which can happen - we’re equipped to navigate it calmly and professionally - keeping things on track and without compromise.
03
Why no free quotes?
Great homes begin long before construction starts. At The Building Company, we believe accuracy, clarity, and care are essential - especially in the early stages of planning a high-end renovation or new build. That’s why we offer a dedicated pre-construction pricing service in place of rough estimates. This isn’t a ballpark figure or templated spreadsheet. It’s a hands-on, considered process, we where we invest as much time as needed (sometimes weeks sometimes months) to get your project into construction. This includes:
- Real-world pricing based on your plans, site, and scope
- Quotes from trusted trades with relevant project experience
- Buildability advice and best-practice recommendations
- Transparent, clearly itemised documentation - no ambiguity
We’re consistently told our pricing packs are the most comprehensive and easy-to-understand our clients and collaborators have seen - and they often serve as a key decision-making tool. And we are on standby every step of the way.
Why It Matters: Many of the homes we build feature one-of-a-kind details, bold design intent, and complex architectural elements. Early builder involvement allows us to:
- Translate your design into a practical construction roadmap
- Flag potential challenges early - before they become costly
- Maintain design integrity while ensuring clarity on cost and method
It’s a modest but meaningful investment - one that reflects the care we take in pricing properly, and the shared commitment to progressing your project with clarity and confidence. It also ensures we begin as we mean to continue - with transparency, professionalism, and the time dedicated to getting things right from day one. It’s the kind of preparation that gives your project the precision and dedication it deserves.
